- U.S. free of canine rabies virus:
Federal health experts declared a small victory against a fatal and untreatable virus on Friday, saying canine rabies has disappeared from the United States.

- Dog finally off Wash. state voter rolls: Jane Balogh registered Duncan M. McDonald, an Australian Shepherd-terrier mix, to vote in King County, Washington as a protest against changes to the voter registration law which makes it easier to register to vote. Balogh put the phone bill in the dog's name and then used that to register him to vote. (July 12, 2007)
